Check your heat exchanger’s cleaning need and calculate the energy loss
Fouling shows up in energy consumption long before it causes breakdowns. Take the one-minute cleaning need test and see what reduced heat transfer costs you per year.
Fouling shows up as cost first
A heat exchanger can keep running long after its performance has dropped. The same temperature is then reached with more energy, longer running times or a higher process load. When you spot the symptoms early, you can plan the cleaning for a shutdown instead of reacting to a breakdown.

What does the reduced heat transfer cost?
The pre-filled values are examples. Replace them with your own figures.
Use the average operating duty if you know it. The design duty gives an upper limit.
How much of the heat transfer capacity has been lost. Typically 10–25 %. Your test answers update the assumption, and you can change it yourself.
Inlet to outlet temperature difference of the same stream at the same flow rate. Factor = 1 − ΔT now ÷ ΔT clean.
Estimated energy loss
€0 per year
The calculator shows the order of magnitude, not a guaranteed saving. Calculation: duty × fouling factor × operating hours ÷ 1,000 × energy price × number of heat exchangers. The actual loss is confirmed by measuring temperatures, flow rates and pressure drop. Nothing is sent anywhere until you submit the form.
Cleaning in place, without dismantling
Plate heat exchangers are cleaned by circulation with the HeatFlow Pro unit. The unit heats the cleaning solution, which circulates through the heat exchanger and removes the deposits that hinder heat transfer. The cleaning chemical is chosen according to the fouling: acidic for lime scale and minerals, alkaline for oil and grease.
- Measurement before and after cleaning: temperatures, flow rates and pressure drop
- Circulation typically 2–4 hours per heat exchanger

Frequently asked questions
Where do I find the heat exchanger duty?
The duty is usually on the nameplate, in the design data or in the process diagram. If you do not have an exact value, use an estimate. The calculator still shows the order of magnitude.
How accurate is the calculator?
It shows the order of magnitude. The actual loss and the benefit of cleaning are confirmed by measuring temperatures, flow rates and pressure drop before and after cleaning.
What does the free assessment include?
We go through the heat exchanger data, the symptoms and any measurements you have and tell you whether cleaning is likely to pay off and which method suits it. In Finland we can also visit the site.
Does the heat exchanger have to be dismantled?
Usually not. Plate heat exchangers are cleaned in place: a heated cleaning solution circulates through the heat exchanger. Circulation typically takes 2–4 hours per heat exchanger, plus connection and rinsing.
Can we clean our heat exchangers ourselves?
Yes. We supply the HeatFlow Pro unit and the cleaning chemicals for your own use and train your staff.
Is my calculation sent to you?
Only if you submit the form. The calculator runs in your browser, and the button copies the calculation to the form so that our expert sees your starting point.
